The Place to Meet - Top of the Hill Glenwood North

82nd Airborne 2-508 PIR Christmas for the Soldiers Program

Fourth Brigade 2-508 Parachute Infatry Regiment, Alpha Company, just recently redeployed in Afghanistan.  These brave men and women endure significant hardships and sacrifices, living and working in a violent and harsh environment.  Those I've talked to tell me that letters and packages from home are a most cherished gift.  Many young men and women don't have families at home or families with the ability to send packages regularly.

The Brigade families support all of the troops by organizing donations and sending packages to the troops as our commitment of love and support.  Every soldier benefits from the message of love and support small packages from home gives.  The positive impact increases exponentially during holidays.

It is important to rembemer that these young men and women (many as young as 18) risk their lives to perform their duty for all of us.  They go where they are asked to go, and perform their duties with the utmost courage, compassion, and honor.

Loc Lu's has set up a donation center at the shop, where you can drop off items or make a monetary donation.  Items collected will be forwarded to the Family Readiness Group at Ft. Bragg where they will be organized and sent the the troops.

Please scroll down and read the letter from Yolandia Crow, Alpha Company FRG Coordinator.  I encourage you to make a donation of small items or even a monetary contribution to assist in the effort.

Not all items can be sent to the troops.  I've included a suggestion list of items offerred by a previously deployed soldier that we have found helpful:

Hello,
I am Yolandia Crow, the Family Readiness Group Leader of Alpha Company here at Fort Bragg. First I want to thank you so much for helping support the soldiers of Alpha Company! My goal is to raise as much support for our paratroopers as possible! Sky is the limit for these guys because there is no limit to the length of personal sacrifice that these men are willing to endure for each other, for us as well as for a country that they owe nothing to!
Here are some things that we have done and collected in the past for the guys that are deployed during Christmas. I would really like to do as much as we can for the guys this year! I can’t imagine spending Christmas away from all family and loved ones, especially in such a place as they are!  The more we can do and put together right now the higher we can raise their morale through what will be one of the toughest times of the deployment for them. I hope that we can use the Christmas Shipment to show the guys how much they are loved and that they are supported by their families, hometowns, and America! Okay, enough of my soapbox, sorry. Here’s a list of items that we’ve gathered in the past. Of course, like you said the monetary is the easiest because of the time and space between the supporters and here where we put everything together and set up and ship. However, some of the things that we collect (or buy with the monetary donations) are, CD’s, DVD’s, small portable type DVD Players (this we would try to do at least one per plt because they are all spread out) Game Systems and games (again we would try to do one per plt since they are all spread out-but it would be awesome if we could do 2-4 per plt), more sports equipment (footballs, soccer balls, baseballs-bats, volley ball nets, etc.) that the guys can set up to use on their down time, and often times when they have extra, and sometimes when they don’t, they will give balls, equipment, and candy to the locals (great way to befriend!!). Um, we also do a stocking (and sometimes gift bag also, depending on how many donations we receive) filled with Christmas candy, beef jerky, drink mix, batteries (Oh Yea, Batteries Are A Big One!), eye drops, some fun goofy little toys (little dart or water guys, goofy glasses, just something like that to entertain the more easily entertain able guys…lol), cards, disposable cameras (those are a gift for us as well because we get them back to develop the pictures, usually containing some of the crowd that are being entertained by the goofy things J
which is great and heart warming to see, but fair warning it has been known to bring tears!)  Basically we are open to anything that will make the guys feel better.  I have already signed up all of the guys to receive a small box from one of the local companies (with approx 10 items what they are I don’t know).  I am trying to see if I can get a company to donate stockings or gift bags, I’m not sure if that’s going to go through either. The last two times that I have done this we have bought materials and made our own stockings. I would love to send the homemade stockings again but I’m just not sure how many resources we are going to have this year.
Oh, also if someone is writing a check, they can make it out to the Alpha Company FRG and can mail it to 55 Provider Circle, Fort Bragg, NC 28307 c/o Yolandia Crow.
If someone donates something to you for our guys would you please, please get their name and mailing address info so that at the end of this I can send out thank you cards. J I want them to know how much we (soldiers and their families) appreciate their support! Thanks Again For Your Help With Our Christmas Project!! J
